Dr. Daniel B. Fisher, M.D., Ph.D., is the Executive Director of the National Empowerment Center and a member of the President's Commission on Mental Illness. Along with a team of others with 'lived experience', he has developed one of the emerging community-based alternatives for dealing with mental illness called Emotional CPR. Dr. Fisher mentions that, "The interpersonal techniques and approaches that are most vital for connecting people and helping them feel safe are not taught in the psychiatric residency programs.
