Do You Hear What I Hear?

This is a presentation on the Hearing Voices Movement. Topics covered will be the history, philosophy, and worldview of the Hearing Voices Network (HVN) and taking charge of your wellness and intentionality.  
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will learn about the history of the Hearing Voices Network
2. Participants will learn the values of the Hearing Voices Network
3. Participants will learn coping strategies for how to deal with distressing voices, including the value of hearing voices groups

The Hearing Voices Network Hits the Mainstream!

The Hearing Voices movement began in Europe in the late 1980s when Marius Romme, a psychiatrist, realized that his training and therapeutic techniques were not helping one of his patients to manage the voices in her head. In listening to Patsy Hage, Romme began to wonder if maybe other voice-hearers might be in a better position to help her than he was. His hunch turned out to be correct, and the Hearing Voices Network (HVN) was co-founded by Romme and Hage in 1987.

Monash University's VOICES CLINIC and Voices VIC

Australia is now home to some of the best organized hearing voices network groups and collectives in the world.  Prahran Mission's Voices Vic is one such group.  Be sure and check out some of their exciting projects including:
  • Research collaborations with Monash University's Voices Clinic, including a randomized control trial (RCT) of a 1-to-1 peer intervention incorporating HVN principles and Intentional Peer Support (IPS).
  • An amazing training line-up, including workshops on facilitation, voice profiling, voice dialogue, dissociation, and trainings targeting family & friends.
  • Voices Unplugged: a video project featuring "the real stories of voices hearers."
